Forrester Research undertook an analysis of more than 800 occupations tracked by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics to help determine how advancing automation will affect jobs. They defined 12 different work personas and examined the likely effects on each one, in order to help CIOs better understand the progression.
The three key takeaways are:
- Employees performing highly structured, repetitive work will be affected soonest
- Knowledge diversity, digital skills, and human empathy will protect 252 occupations
- Predicted job participation declines don’t account for all potential evacuees from the workforce
